1) Introduction

This guide provides in-depth information about Add to Menu and will tell you:

  • what it does
  • how to install it
  • how to set-up and use it

2) What is Add to Menu?

Add to Menu is a Joomla! administrator module.

It will display an 'Add to Menu' link on certain pages in your administrator allowing you to quickly add a menu item for that page.
link

The link will only show up on a page if the component is supported by Add to Menu.

With most of the pages you will have to save it before you can see the Add to Menu link in the status bar.

After clicking on the link, you will be presented with a modal popup window with some general settings for the menu item. You can adjust these settings before creating the menu item.

Here is an example of the Add to Menu window for a standard article.:

Add to Menu only offers the most common settings in the popup window, as its goal is to help you quickly add menu items. If you need to customize any other more advanced menu settings, you will have to do that via the normal Menu Manager.

3) Settings

There are a few settings you can adjust to customise the Add to Menu module’s appearance. Here is the full list of options you can find in the Add to Menu administrator module settings:

Display link How do you want the link to be displayed?
Link Text The text to display as link.
Display Tooltip Select to display a tooltip with extra info when mouse hovers over link/icon.
Adjust Modal Width
Adjust Modal Height
Amount in pixels to adjust the modal popup.

If for some reason (like 3rd party template styling) the modal popup is too small for the options, you can make the modal popup larger by the entered amount of pixels.

4) Component Support

Add to Menu will work on many types of pages by default such as: articles, categories, contacts, news feeds, web links, users and search.
The PRO version also has support for a number of well-known 3rd party extensions such as K2, FLEXIcontent, MyBLOG, Virtuemart and redSHOP.

Add to Menu works with xml component templates. You can optionally create your own component templates to add support for it. This is a little complicated but you can find more information on how to do this here:
Component template XML files

5) Requirements

Add to Menu will only work correctly if your setup meets these requirements:

  • Up-to-date version of Joomla:
    • Joomla 2.5.10 or higher
    • Joomla 3.2.2 or higher
  • PHP 5.3+ ( No PHP 5.2 support! )
  • PHP mbstring (Multibyte String) functions enabled
  • MySQL 5+

Important: I can only provide support for setups that:

  • meet the above requirements;
  • do not have extension files or Joomla! core files which have been altered in any way.

6) Installation

You can either install Add to Menu by using the core extension manager available in the Joomla! Administrator Control Panel, or by using the powerful NoNumber Extension Manager.

Note: When updating Add to Menu, you do not need to uninstall it first. The package will update all the files automatically.

Keep in mind that when you update to a major new version (or uninstall first), you might lose some configuration settings.

6.1) NoNumber Extension Manager

It is very easy to install/update any NoNumber Extension using the NoNumber Extension Manager.

Please see the User Guide for the NoNumber Extension Manager for more detailed information...

If you no longer use any NoNumber extensions, you can also uninstall the NoNumber Framework plugin by using the Joomla! core extension manager.
