I would primarily want to use this extension so that business owners / clients could update their own content. Using Wordpress, people can easily publish their content to menu automatically, with Joomla this takes more steps.

A few problems so far in using addtomenu:

1- add to menu link not visible until AFTER creating new article.
2- position of addtomenu link should be in the Parameters (Article) area / column. Current location next to the logout button is too far for most general users to see.

3- doesn't appear any option to unpublish or change menu link. ie ) Someone mistakenly publishes the article to the top level, but want to change it to a sublevel of Blogs. Can they do this using addtomenu?

1) correct. That is because the article needs an id before you can attach it to a menu.
2,3) That's how I choose to set it up. By having all the possible parameters and ability to control everything will defeat the whole purpose... You just want a link to the actual menuitem so you can change everything. That is not what Add to Menu is designed for.

I'm not sure how open you are to feedback but I'd suggest you are missing out on a much bigger group of users by targeting Developers rather than non-tech users.

Repeatedly both other Developers and business clients tell me they are choosing Wordpress over Joomla because it only takes 2 steps to add content / link to menu.

In Joomla 1.0 there was a "link to menu" option, which meant two steps. In Joomla 1.5 it take EIGHT steps to simply add content / link to menu.

For Joomla to continue to grow, adding content / link to menu has to be simple!

The feedback I've gotten from people is that they don't want to have to use Menu manager, because it takes SIX steps just to add one link.

If you could enable your add to menu extension to be managable without going to Menu Manager it would be REALLY valuable.

What about offering another version that is like the "link to menu" option in Joomla 1.0, so it takes 2 steps instead of 8.

Add to Menu takes away those 8 steps and lets you add menu items fast. But if you want to customize the link after adding it, you now still need to go to the menu manager.

In Joomla 1.6 this will all be much more user-friendly (and core functionality).

Is there a way to display the add to menu button closer to the article? Next to the Preview / Save / Apply buttons?

No, not really the way it is setup now. It is designed to be displayed in the status bar. If you publish the admin module somewhere else (like in the toolbar) it looses its styling and you only see the text in a weird place.
