I had CustoMenu working great, but then I changed the settings in the Joomla Global Configuration as follows: 1) switched to search engine friendly URLs 2)use apache mod-rewrite 3) add suffix to URLs.

The links in my tabs went from this: bwpierpointinn.com/index.php?option=com_...;id=50&Itemid=55

To this: bwpierpointinn.com/area-attractions.html

Now, with the pretty new SEF URLs my menus no longer have the active tab highlighted. If I use the old-style longer URLs I get the active tab highlighted. But not with the new shorter URLs. Is there some way to get tabs to highlight properly now that I am using the Search Engine Friendly Settings?

I don't know why it doesn't work for you. Maybe it is just Joomla Cache getting in the way. Try to clean that.

Otherwise I would have to see the CustoMenu settings and the original menu items. Can you give me admin access?

There is some bug in CustoMenu, i think, that doesn't activate the items correctly.
But you can easily overcome this by adding the menu items to the "Active on menu items" fields.

Right you are! I never grokked what that setting meant. I'll be a paying customer now.

There are tooltips on all options. If it still isn't clear what stuff is for, let me know, then I need to change the descriptions.
